Oddero Estate Barbera d'Alba Superiore 2018
Oddero is the flag-bearer of "old-school" winemaking in Piedmont. Not much has changed in this great winery after decades of producing the most classic examples of Nebbiolo from their prized holdings in Barolo and Barbaresco. They choose to ferment and macerate the grapes in Stainless steel for 15 days followed by aging in 75HL casks for 12 to 14 months and then concrete tank for about 5 months. What is left is just pure, ripe Barbera goodness, possessing juicy red fruits and black cherries wrapped around an earthy core with hints of garrigue. This is fantastic wine to be enjoyed now and over the next 3 years with everything from pizza to grilled chicken and even pork loin. |

Oddero Estate Barolo 2016
Eschewing all modern influences, the Oddero family maintains tradition with great pride. Maria Cristina Oddero keeps the family platitudes close to her heart in making a fantastic, authentic 2016 Barolo, taking just what the vintage gave her and neither over extracting nor making a meek wine. Lively dried cherries, kirschy fruit, leather and floral components meld together for a deliciously forward drinking Barolo. The overwhelming theme of this wine is its supple character and outstanding value. Spot on young Nebbiolo at present, but this beauty has enough stuffing to age well for 8-10 years. |

Oddero Barbaresco Gallina 2017
The 2004 vintage of this wine was so head turning on my trip to Piedmont in November 2007 that I actually went on a scavenger hunt through the streets of Alba looking for bottles on local shelves to bring back. The strength of the 2017 Gallina lies in the soil and the picture perfect growing conditions of the vintage. The wine literally made itself. It is a much more supple vintage and one that lends itself to early consumption as well as cellaring...a thing that I love. Bright cherry, cardamom, brown spices, new saddle leather, and raspberry jam have pin point balance and unreal length. Enjoy this wine now through 2024. |

Oddero Barolo Rocche di Castiglione 2016
The 2016 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is bright, perfumed and super-expressive, with that striking combination of aromatic intensity and structure that is such a signature of this site, especially here. Rose petal, chalk, mint and red berry fruit add to an impression of total finesse and grace. Bright, saline notes pulse through the wonderfully expressive finish in another Barolo that has so much to say. Drink 2025-2040. |
