The Best Mezcal I’ve Tasted, Period: Mezcalofera By Mezcaloteca |
|
Today’s spirit offer comes from a unique place, a place where you can taste the best and oldest mezcals in the world. It's considered the Sistine Chapel in the mezcal world. Its name is Mezcaloteca. Mezcalotela is located in the heart of Oaxaca, Mexico. They source their spirits from small traditional producers, often making less than 200 liters, and every batch is very limited and hard to get. I tasted this gem and couldn’t believe how good it was! It’s rustic, it’s so textured, and so delicious. It’s the best mezcal I’ve tasted, period. PS- Mezcalosfera is the export label from Mezcaloteca.
This mezcal is named after the legend, 4th generation, maestro mezcalero, Ageo Cortes. The spirit is 100% wild agave Tobala elaborated the traditional way. It’s smashed with a stone mill, cooked in underground ovens for 10 days, and distilled twice to add natural texture. Ageo’s Cortes Tobala has a complex nose of wet stone, old bricks, lemongrass, cornmeal and cooked agave. These aromatics are wild! The palate embraces a savory character, with notes of jasmine, black pepper and vanilla, but adds fruit – fresh strawberry and burnt orange peel in particular. Ageo’s Cortes expression of Tobala is fantastic, and rustic, yet elegant. $125 per bottle net. ONLY 12 available *Mezcal arrives Tuesday March 2nd.
