Limited Seasonal Release: Sourland Mountain Aged Gin, A Truly Special Spirit
A delicious gin made for the bourbon drinker… This week, I had the pleasure of tasting and meeting Erica Disch, owner of Sourland Mountain Spirits, a small artisanal distillery located in Hopewell, New Jersey. During the tasting she poured me their new seasonal release aged gin, and I loved it. Here is why this aged gin is unique: It’s aged for 9 months in a combination of new and used American white oak barrels. Usually 6 months is the minimum, but this gin has 3 extra months of aging to add more toasty vanilla flavors. The barrels are char 3. This is very important because this specific char/toast adds more color and those spice notes that all whisky drinkers love. Each barrel contains 1 lb of local honey. Yes, that’s right, honey. The honey adds more texture and a touch of sweetness (similar to the Taconic double barrel bourbon) Señoras y Señores, this is a truly unique gin and very limited. Sourland Mountain Gin Reserve This full bodied gin drinks like a smooth, bouncy whiskey. Burnished gold and bright in the glass, the sweet aroma suggests vanilla bean and sarsaparilla, which carry through to the palate. Cinnamon spice and espresso notes are also present. The finish is long and balances alcohol heat against soothing honey notes. Sourland gin reserve is extremely versatile. We recommend using it to make your favorite cocktail like the Negroni, Manhattan or Old Fashioned. $52 net per bottle *Gin arrives Tuesday September 15th |
