Carema…what can I say? It’s about as picturesque a landscape you will ever lay eyes on. I had the opportunity to visit the region last year — seems like a lifetime ago now — but the topography of that amphitheater of vines is truly breathtaking. Steeply terraced and trained on pergola, they more resemble Nebbiolo trees than vines. But the wines from these high altitude sites are lovely and ethereal. 

Produttori di Carema is NOT a big massive factory of wine but rather an outlet for the fractured landscape of tiny vineyard owners in this small appellation. They couldn’t possibly all make a barrel or two of wine so they come together as a collective and make wine of pride and substance…

2016 is a superior vintage and this is a gem of a wine. To all those who want to drink great Nebbiolo but don’t want it to be Barolo-priced, this is your moment. It’s really a killer bottle of wine that will soothe your soul.

Aged in large neutral botti (oak barrels) the Produttori 2016 is a kick ass bottle of Nebbiolo love.  With 71 vineyard owners all coming together (most only having a 1/2 hectare) to produce a beautiful wine, this vintage in particular is one of true substance and purity.  Pretty floral notes and light wafts of cherry lead the way with easy breezy tannins and hints of white pepper and raspberry. Enjoy now through 2024.
