Dad’s Hat Pennsylvania Straight Rye Whiskey Bottled in Bond

Bottled in Bond(BiB) is a standard dating from an 1897 Federal act. “Bonded” whiskey must be at least four years old, aged in new, charred oak barrels by one distiller at one distillery, bottled at 100 proof. Only spirits produced in the United States may be designated as bonded.

This four-year-old straight rye whiskey is a true Dad’s Hat expression of a Pennsylvania school of distilling (all spicy rye, rye malt, and barley, with no sweet corn added). It’s deeper, more intense and layered than their 90 proof. The spirit is orange amber in color, with baking spices and orange peel on the nose. On the palate shows rye spice, dark chocolate notes, and vanilla that comes forward on the back end once a splash of water mutes some of the 100-proof heat. Though not too much H2O, this is whiskey of integrity that should be tasted in its full, bond-certified quality.
