Holloran Vineyards Oregon Pinot Noirs: Pure Oregon Terroir - Great Value! I first got to know the wines from this great little property from a friend who knew Bill Holloran and had hosted him for golf at his club just up the road. As a thank you Bill had sent a case of Pinot Noir, and my friend thought it was so good he brought a bottle by for me to taste. Well, I loved the wine and we've stocked various Holloran wines ever since! What really stands out at Holloran is their commitment to making balanced, elegant, expressive wines that truly capture the terroir and nature of their vineyards in various parts of the Willamette Valley. Whether it is one of their vineyard designate wines or their second label Stafford Hill, the wines are pure, detailed and delicious. But perhaps the best part about Holloran is Bill's commitment to offering his wines at extremely fair prices, well under other wines of similar quality and pedigree - and for that we thank him! The winery employs a philosophy of sustainable farming including organic and biodynamic practices and carefully managed yields. They follow up in the cellar by fermenting small lots for better control and to preserve the individuality of each parcel, with gentle pressing, punchdowns by hand, natural yeasts and natural malolactic fermentations in barrel, with no fining or filtration. Top cuvees are in barrel for 18 months with very judicious use of new oak (about 10-20%). Bill sums up their style by noting "Our wines are made following Old World traditions. We do not strive for maximum extraction and 'big' flavors; rather we allow the unique characteristics of each vintage and vineyard to shine through, emphasizing purity of flavors. Bright acidity makes our wines ideal for pairing and complementing your meals." Hear, hear! To watch a video and interview with Bill Holloran click here. I tasted these wines in NY at our distributor's annual spring tasting, and again just a couple of weeks ago when Bill stopped by the shop. Both times the wines really sang, and the result is that today we are offering both the Stafford Hill 2012 Eola Amity Hills (a terrific Cellar Defender!) and the Holloran Vineyards La Colina Dundee Hills 2010, both superb! They are in good supply and arrive Friday April 11th. Cheers! Chris Cree, MW To order, click on the links below, call us at 908.953.0900 or reply to this email.
