Visions of Spring: Our "Cult" Rose Offer I can still remember a visit way back in the early 1990's when I had traveled in France in the spring and really got my first experience with the dry rose wines of Provence. Maybe it was the crystalline Provencal light, the delicious lazy lunches al fresco, the scent of the scrubby rugged landscape and the warmth and welcome of the winemakers, but I fell hard for dry rose. So I bought 5 cases as soon as I returned and the wines arrived just before Memorial Day Weekend. Well, in the land of white zinfandel and a time not so far removed from the images of Mateus, Lancers and Riunite, let's just say my skeptical clientele was not quite ready to embrace their inner "pink". So I hand sold every bottle, promising it wasn't "sweet", that it was quite normal, even considered quite chic, to see grown men and women enthusiastically enjoying their rose all throughout the south of France - movie stars in Cannes were drinking it for heaven's sake! I think it took me until Labor day to finally sell the last bottle (or maybe we drank them ourselves as a farewell to summer). In any case, I didn't give up, and the next year we sold a bit more, and within a few years we were selling hundreds of cases of dry Rose in the fleeting months between Easter and Labor Day, the true Rose season. And now the world has caught on, with growers in Provence telling me they used to produce 80% red, 10% each of white and rose as recently as a few years ago, and the complete reverse today, with 80% rose in some cases. When you consider the cash flow ramifications, it's no wonder there are a few new SUV's in the garages! So Rose is now tres chic, and quite in demand, which presents the opposite problem: we can't get enough of the very best! With rose's general popularity, and the new social media making cult wines out of previously obscure wines, regions, producers and grapes, the word is definitely out. Add that to a few short vintages in France and you get the picture - don't hesistate! Today we are offering the blue chips (pink chips as the case may be) of our rose portfolio, and while there will be more offers throughout the spring and summer of our more widely available rose wines (and new discoveries), these are a few that will most likely sell out long before they reach our shelves. So disregard the frigid temps and think of warm spring and summer afternoons, sipping a glass or two of lovely dry rose wine and be sure not to miss out on the best of the best! This is a pre-arrival offer, wines arrive between April and July. Cheers! Chris Looking for more rose?
