Bourgogne Les Bons Batons Phillippe Leclerc 2010 - On Sale $24.99 Back in stock for a limited time! One of the top Burgundy values of last year! The Leclerc family have been vingerons for over a hundred years, with vineyards passed down from father to son for generations with holdings in Gevrey Chambertin and Chambolle Musigny Village level and Premier Crus. Leclerc wines are sturdy and solid, and this wine, from the great 2010 vintage, is very much in the Leclerc style but in this case perhaps showing a little Chambolle perfume and elegance on the nose along with a hint of Gevrey influence in the background. It is medium ruby in color, a lovely nose of red fruits, with fine darker cherry and spice on the palate, with a good tannin structure and nicely integrated, very subtle oak hints. This is a wine you could serve now with decanting, but it will also reward the patient with 2-3 years of bottle age. At Leclerc, special care is taken at every step of the grape growing and wine making process to craft beautiful, expressive wines from their vineyards. Replanting is done vine by vine to maintain vine age of over 30 years average. Harvest is by hand, with care taken to assure grapes are intact right up until they go into the vats. A cool maceration of about 15 days is followed by 15 days of fermentation, treading the cap by foot 3 times per day. Wines are settled before aging in oak barrels with 100% new oak for the 1er Crus and 30-50% for the Village and Bourgogne. Wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. The Bourgogne Bons Batons, I am pretty sure, comes mostly if not entirely from a small parcel of vines located just outside of Chambolle Musigny, near Gilly Les Citeaux.
