The style of Poderi di Balzo, especially in the 2009, is deep and fullish, but more classical and traditional than modern, with good ripeness and depth, lively balance and structure, and a super price! Pre-Arrival - Wine arrives week of January 27th. The vineyards consist of about 7 hectares and sit at about 300/400 meters above sea level but of these 7 hectares only about 5,000 bottles are produced. The soil is clay, calcareous, rich in mineral and with a high percentage of rocks and stones which is perfect for proper drainage. The land overall is ideal for the growth of Sangiovese. The vinification is traditional. The maceration lasts for about 20 days with 3 daily pump-overs. Fermentation in stainless steel casks at controlled temperature of 28 - 30 degrees. Ageing is 100% in second passage French Oak barriques for a period of about 18 months; then refined in bottle for other 6 months. It gives us great pleasure to bring to our customers an exciting new wine, and a wine that will lay confidently next to our other Cellar Defenders.
