In wine retail, when you are the first to get notified of a wine that is new to the US market, your heart skips a beat because you realize that you may have just come across the next best thing, or you may question why it has not gotten picked up anywhere else first. Your mind wanders, but at first sip, you are brought back to your initial thought. The conclusion? A new up and coming wine producer is now at 56 Degree Wine. Finding a new up and coming producer is always exiting, and one with so much going for it is even better! The vineyards are directly adjacent to Selvapiana and the consulting enologist is Dott Franco Bernabei, considered by many as one of the tops with Sangiovese. He works with many top estates in Tuscany including Fontodi, Felsina, Flaccianello and many others. The style is deep and fullish, but more classical and traditional than modern. 2009 ripeness and depth, lively balance and structure, super price! A wine to drink now and over the next 3-5 years with poultry, game birds, risotto with porcini, veal and all kinds of pasta. Wine arrives Friday. The vineyards consist of about 7 hectares and sit at about 300/400 meters above sea level but of these 7 hectares only about 5,000 bottles are produced. The soil is clay, calcareous, rich in mineral and with a high percentage of rocks and stones which is perfect for proper drainage. The land overall is ideal for the growth of Sangiovese. The vinification is traditional. The maceration lasts for about 20 days with 3 daily pump-overs. Fermentation in stainless steel casks at controlled temperature of 28 - 30 degrees. Ageing is 100% in second passage French Oak barriques for a period of about 18 months; then refined in bottle for other 6 months. It gives us great pleasure to bring to our customers an exciting new wine, and a wine that will lay confidently next to our other Cellar Defenders. We encourage your to buy now, before the rest of the wine drinking community gets their hands on it. Cheers! Chris Cree MW - 56 Degree Wine
