2009 Domaine des Billards Beaujolais St Amour
A stunningly good wine that is probably the best Beaujolais I've ever tasted, this wine from Domaine des Billards is perfection. St. Amour is a tiny area, but the Barbet family has always had huge holdings in Beaujolais with contracts to sell off their fruit. Surviving the Deboeuf-era, and with their "negociant" contracts finally expiring, they finally can produce their own estate bottled wines. Quite a triumph, as this wine is cherry-scented with strawberry, fresh herbs and pomegranate. The balance is one of the most impressive aspects, the perfect proportion of fruit, acid and tannins leave the wine with so much freshness. So lovely and so fine, this is perfect wine from turkey, roasted chicken, poussin among a myriad of light dishes.
